A review of all the afternoon's action in the Central Midlands

This week it was the turn of waterlogged pitches to make inroads into the fixture list but the damage was limited.
Friday night’s match in the Black Dragon Badges North Division saw Appleby Frodingham take on next to bottom Thorne Colliery at Brumby Hall. Two first half goals gave Frod the points, Danny Boulton scoring as early as the fourth minute, Caine Mawer getting the second in the 28th minute. Retford United, who parted company with their manager in midweek, reached second spot after a 2-0 win at Dronfield Town Reserves. Both goals came in the opening period, Adam Watson putting the Badgers ahead on 19 minutes with Brandon Kane adding another seven minutes later. Renishaw Rangers had a 3-2 win over AFC Bentley. Luke Knightley put the home side ahead, Zack King equalising before Craig Purcell put Renishaw back in front just before the interval. Josh Bowkett got a second for Bentley after the break, Ryan Bates hitting the decider in the second half. Newark Town climbed off the bottom of the table, a Tyler Martin shot on 38 minutes settling matters against Dinnington Town. Dinnington battled hard against the wind in the second half, but the Newark back four held firm.
Hucknall Town remain the team to beat in the South division after a 4-0 defeat of Ashland Rovers at Kingsway Park. Jamie Crawford’s 18th minute goal gave them the half time lead, Oliver Brown, Adam Nelson and Joe Ashurst all on target in the second period. The win keeps them a point ahead of Matlock Town Reserves who had a first half free kick from Ben Edgson to thank for their single goal win over Holbrook St Michaels. Tony Edwards hit a hat trick, Jonathan Rowbottom, Kirtis Chadburn, Rhoadri Meads and an own goal completing the scoring. Kyle Wesley replied for the Lions. Mickleover RBL played their first league match of 2019 which turned out to be a success as they beat Teversal Reserves 4-1.
