The Saturday Roundup - November 16th

By Richard Lane

Yet another rain-ruined Saturday. Here are the remains of the day

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it was yet another Saturday where games were few and far between, just six league matches and three county cup ties surviving yet another wet week.
Newark Town returned to the top of the Black Dragon Badges with a comfortable 7-0 defeat of a plucky Appleby Frodingham. Craig Bridge scored the first of his three goals on 19 minutes, Lewis Chambers adding two in a minute just after the half hour mark before Bridge got Town’s fourth in the 39th minute. The same player completed his hat trick four minutes after the restart, George Asplin completing the scoring with goals in the 62nd and 89th minutes. A rejuvenated Phoenix were also among the goals with a 5-0 win at home to Askern. Adam Houghton scored with just 35 seconds on the clock and doubled the score with a 30th minute penalty. Adam Davis made it three on 75 minutes, Chris Hopkins and a late own goal rounding off an encouraging win.
In the South Division, Linby Colliery beat the conditions for the second Saturday running and got their reward by beating Blidworth Welfare 4-1. James Hallam got the opener on 38 minutes with Owen Everton adding a second before the interval. Hallam’s second just before the hour was followed by a Dom Baker goal in the 72nd minute, Liam Arnold getting a late consolation for Blidworth. Pinxton sit in third place in the table after a 3-1 defeat of Underwood Villa, goals from Daniel Minto, Rob Fretwell and Sion Green proving enough to claim the points.
In Division One North Epworth Town Colts travelled to Wakefield, returning with a 3-2 win. Harrison Coley scored twice for Epworth, Ritchie Burdett getting the third from the penalty spot, Wakefield replying through Jamie Hardwick and Michael Ash.
FC Sez had another big win in Division One South as they beat Sports Gateway 8-1. Cameron Thurgood’s hat trick was added to by Liam Honeyman and Dec Smith who got two apiece with Sam McElroy also on the scoresheet, Sam Whitton replying for the visitors.
There were mixed fortunes in the Derbyshire FA Divisional Cup North. Cromford and Wirksworth Town had a 6-2 win over Chapel Town, Rob Inckle and Sam Smith each scoring twice with Dec Jenkins and Tom Savage adding one apiece. Wirksworth Ivanhoe went out 2-1 to holders Whaley Bridge, Matt Leask getting the goal.
Selston finally got their Notts Senior Trophy tie with Carlton Town Reserves underway with the help of a 3G pitch, winning the tie 8-3. Jake Wright starred with a five goal haul, Oli McCarthy, Alex Neilson and Ethan Camm adding one each.
