Two Friday night games kicked off the weekend’s football which was, for the second weekend running, badly hit by the wet weather.
Mansfield Hosiery Mills had a narrow 1-0 win against Ashland Rovers, despite playing for 50 minutes with ten men. Ben Aspinall scored the decisive goal in the second half. Epworth Town Colts went out of the Lincolnshire FA Junior Cup, losing 4-1 at unbeaten Hykeham Town, the score not reflecting the game, Epworth’s goal coming from a Ritchie Burdett penalty.
All six matches in the Black Dragon South division, as well as Clay Cross’s FA Vase tie with Sherwood Colliery, were postponed, what action there was being confined to the North division.
The top two, Newark Town and Dinnington Town, both kept their unbeaten records intact. Newark got off to a great start in their match with AFC Bentley, going three up in the first 15 minutes. Luke Parsons put them ahead in the 5th minute, Lewis Chambers added a second on 11 with Rhys Lewis making it three on the quarter hour. George Asplin’s double on 62 and 89 minutes finished off a 5-0 win. It was much tighter at Phoenix where a third minute goal from Dinnington’s Bradley Sedgwick was the only goal of the game. Dronfield Town Reserves recovered from last week’s seven goal defeat to register an impressive 2-2 draw at Harworth Colliery. The visitors went two up with goals in the first 20 minutes from Michael Fereday and Jimmy Savage, Harworth pulled one back just before half time through Callum Brooks and claimed a share of the points with a Jack Billau goal in the second half. Renishaw Rangers were 4-1 winners over Staveley Reserves. Owen Ryan put Rangers ahead on 15 minutes, Alex Sanderson levelling just three minutes later. Callum Wood restored the home side’s lead with 28 played and Kyle Lilley got a third on 55 minutes. Montelle Kamara rounded off the win three minutes from time.
In Division One North Boynton Sports beat a new look Chesterfield Town side 5-3. Scorers for Boynton were Ryan Morton with two, Kurtis Cockburn, Connor Gregg and Curts Priday, with Chesterfield’s reply coming from Matthew Birks, Curtis McLeish and Solly Limb.
There was one game in Division One South with Cromford & Wirksworth Town maintaining their 100% record in the last minute with a 2-1 win at FC Sez. Ryan Deabill scored for the home side with Cromford taking the points through Lewis Land and a 90th minute winner from Josh Middleton who made amends for two missed penalties earlier in the match
