History

Crowle’s Saturday team has a history packed with trophies and almost as many name changes. Beginning in 1963 as Axholme Wanderers their first honour was the Scunthorpe League Division Five title in the 1966-67 season. The following campaign brought a name change to Crowle United and heralded the club’s golden era, the high point of which came at the end of the 1970-71 season when they secured the Division One title, the Challenge Cup and the Lincolnshire FA Junior Cup. After retaining the Division One trophy the following year Crowle United moved into the Lincolnshire League where they remained until returning to Scunthorpe in 1989.

Although United were playing further afield, a Crowle presence was felt in local football as teams known Crowle United A and Crowle United Reserves found their names engraved on several trophies in the mid-to-late eighties but the end of the 95-96 season was the end of the line for United.

Following a gap season the club re-formed as Crowle FC (Division One) and Crowle United Junior Colts (Division Five) before a merger brought the teams together as Crowle Colts at the beginning of the new millennium. Another break, another reformation and another name change saw Crowle Colts Seniors play for two seasons before becoming Crowle Colts in 2006-07 and George and Dragon the following year.

In 2008 the need for off-field stability brought together the people who have shaped the recent history of the club. A reversion to a previous name, with a small addition, brought Crowle Town Colts into existence. A remarkable Division Two campaign in 2015-16, when the Colts won every league game and collected three trophies, returned the club to the position of its illustrious predecessors at the right end of Division One.

An encouraging 16-17 set up another treble-winning campaign last season and the Colts joined the Central Midlands League for the 2018-19 season and currently play in Division One North.
