Midweek Roundup for September 18th

A roundup of the midweek matches in the Central Midlands.


Clay Cross Town ensured the Central Midlands League will be represented in the first round of the FA Vase as they won their replayed tie at Gedling Miners Welfare 3-2. The Millers got the important early goal, Kieran Ordidge scoring in the 9th minute, and went further ahead through Grant Mitchell on the half hour. The home side were reduced to ten men a couple of minutes before half time, but rallied to pull a goal back four minutes into the second period. Josh Parfitt restored the two goal advantage with 54 played, and although Gedling got a second fifteen minutes from time, Clay Cross ran out winners and now face Leicester Senior League Cottesmore Amateurs at home on October 12th.
There were two ties in the Steelbeams Derby Presidents Cup. After a goalless first half, Nottingham FC took a 46th minute lead against Bakewell Town through Saniousi Ibrahim. The visitors countered with a three goal burstin four minutes , Aaron Maunde equalising from 25 yards after 52 minutes followed by goals in quick succession from James Hill and Tom Forder. Ibrahim got a second in the final minute but Bakewell held on to a 3-2 win. Woodhouse Colts beat Holbrook Sports 3-0 at Shaw Lane, Jason Straw scoring twice with Jamie Royle also on target.


Newark Town and Harworth Colliery put their unbeaten records in the Black Dragon Badges North division on the line at the YMCA Activity Village with Newark coming out on top with a 2-0 win. Ben Castell gave the Blues the lead in the 30th minute with Lewis Chambers sealing the points two minutes before the final whistle, giving Newark a five point lead at the top of the table.

Retford United were 5-1 winners against Heanor Town in the Presidents Cup. Brandon Ashmore’s double and a goal from Stuart Easom gave Retford a comfortable interval lead, George White and Matthew Blakemore also scoring before Ewan Richardson got a late consolation for Heanor
