The Saturday Roundup - October 31st

By Richard Lane

Just seven matches remained this afternoon. Here are the details.

What may well be the last Saturday roundup for some time saw just seven matches survive the toxic mixture of pandemic restrictions and heavy rain.

The Premier North division accounted for four of the games. On Friday night Collingham hosted Retford United behind closed doors, the visitors coming out on top 3-2. Retford took an early lead, Dean Conway scoring after just 6 minutes, but two minutes later Jake Morrison levelled the scores. Mark West restored Retford’s lead with 14 minutes gone and put them further ahead with 57 played before Alex Oliver got a second for Collingham ten minutes from time. The three Saturday matches were all in South Yorkshire. Thorne Colliery inflicted a rare defeat on Dinnington Town at Moorends, winning 2-1. The home side took a first half lead through Bradley Johnson with Shay Evans-Booth getting number two after the break. Although Jamie Hopkins pulled one back for Dinnington, they couldn’t find an equaliser. A red letter day for Boynton Sports as they recorded their first league win, beating Sutton Rovers 2-0. Connor Gregg scored the first after 11 minutes with Liam Johnson making sure with a goal in the 53rd minute. AFC Bentley and Renishaw took a point each from a 2-2 draw at the Avenue. A James Savage penalty on the half hour put Renishaw ahead with Craig Aspinall hitting the equaliser four minutes later. Ryan Damms scored with his first touch on his debut restored the visitors’ lead just after the hour but Theo Mowatt’s 75th minute goal ensured a share of the points.

A quick reversal of the fixture saw Rowsley 86 travel to Pinxton, the hosts taking full advantage of the switch as they jumped to second place in the Premier South table after a 4-1 win. There were two goals apiece for Jay Cooper and Tom Lewis, with Andrew Roome scoring for Rowsley from the penalty spot.

Something had to give in Division One North as the two sides with 100% records met. Sheffield FC kept their run of wins going as they defeated Bessacarr 3-2 at Cantley Park to go top of the table. Cameron Burgin (2) and Benni Ndlovu were Sheffield’s matchwinners with Lee Holmes and Tom Mclaughlin replying for Bessacarr. Newark Town made it back to back wins as the won 3-1 at Harworth Colliery. Tom Perkins, Zak Kersey and Lenny Chatonzwa were the Blues' matchwinners with Jake Robinson on target for the home side.
