Midweek Roundup for December 4th

All the scores and scorers from this week's matches

After several virtually blank midweeks there was finally some respite allowing a variety of cup matches to be settled.

A month after putting Sherwood Colliery’s first team out of the FA Vase, Clay Cross Town faced the reserves in the Buckingham Insurance League Cup on Tuesday night, but couldn’t replicate the result as the visitors went through 3-2. The Wood were two up inside 20 minutes as Gaz Curtis put them ahead on 9 minutes before Luke Bacon added a second ten minutes later. Liam West increased the lead just before the hour and although the Millers rallied with two Josh Parfitt goals they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Mansfield Hosiery Mills progressed in the Abacus Lighting Floodlit Cup after a 5-3 defeat of Blidworth Welfare. The Millers took the lead through an own goal, Tony Edwards levelling for Blidworth before Kieran Grant gave the hosts an interval lead. Goals from Liam McCarthy and Scott Taylor gave Mansfield a comfortable lead, Edwards then netting for the visitors. A second own goal effectively put the game out of Blidworth’s reach although Roy Bescoby reduced the arrears before the end.

Arnold Town received a boost as they trounced Attenborough 6-1 in the Notts FA Senior Cup. Ash Foster opened the scoring on 15 minutes, Matt Fowler and Rory Smith adding to the score before half time. Foster got his second on the hour with Tom Coupe getting Arnold’s fifth before Foster’s hat trick goal seven minutes from time.
After several postponements Pinxton finally played their Derbyshire Senior Cup tie with neighbours South Normanton Athletic, going down narrowly to their Step 5 opponents 2-1, Rob Fretwell scoring from the penalty spot.

A highly entertaining game in the Mansfield Lodge Hotel Division One Cup saw unbeaten sides Nottingham and Cromford & Wirksworth Town clash at the Brian Wakefield Memorial Ground with the hosts shading the game 3-2 after extra time. Ayleal Dill got two for Nottingham with Seke Spence also on target with the visitors replying through Joe Sharkey and a 25 yard screamer from Ryan Smith.

There were three games in the group stages of the Steelbeams Derby President’s Cup. Wakefield put eight past Ripley Town without reply. Scorers for Wakefield were Danny Kabeya and Nathan Weekes with two each, Amos Kabeya, Jamie Hardwick, Manny Katundu and Thomas Eclapier. Long Eaton United Community were 6-0 winners against Linby Colliery, James Shaw getting a hat trick, Reece Widdowson scoring twice and James Gale also on the scoresheet. It was much closer at Harworth Colliery where Wirksworth Ivanhoe with eight young debutants pushed the home side all the way before going down 2-1. Aaron Pickersgill and Ben Temporal got Harworth’s goals with Lucas Brough scoring for Wirksworth.

Wednesday night saw one match in Division One South as Holbrook Sports picked up their first points of the season with a 3-2 win at Woodhouse Colts. Gavin McCready put the visitors ahead on 35 minutes, Sam Bartram bringing the scores level just before half time. Jamie Royle put Woodhouse ahead before goals from James Rigg and Chris Dring gave Holbrook the points.
