All the results and scorers from a busy week of League and Cup football

The first round of the Buckingham Insurance League Cup took centre stage this week with a total of 15 ties taking place.

Four second round places were decided in midweek. On Tuesday night Clay Cross and Retford United had little difficulty in their away ties at Selston Reserves and Teversal Reserves, although Selston did put on a fighting first half performance to remain on level terms at the interval. The visitors upped the ante in the second half scoring six thanks to Josh Scully’s two penalties, two from Callam Lytham and one each for Billy Whitehead and Lewis Macaskill. Retford also won 6-0 with three in each half at Teversal. Mark West scored the first four with Danny Abdulla and Tom Brook adding one each. On the following night Thorne Colliery had a little more difficulty before getting the better of Ollerton Town Reserves 3-1. Austin Henry gave Thorne a first half lead, but it wasn’t until the 73rd minute that Henry Tyers doubled the score. Curtis Mann got a third for the visitors in the final minute before Oliver Case scored Ollerton’s goal. In Friday’s floodlit match, Glapwell pulled off an excellent 5-1 win at Holbrook Sports. The Division One side were three up in the first twenty minutes, Dan Hamilton opening the scoring with Charlie Bradwell adding two more. Cory Burton making it four a minute before half time. Bradwell completed his hat trick on 52 minutes before Holbrook managed a consolation goal.

Saturday’s ties saw three Premier division sides fall at the hands of Division One opposition. Heanor Town Reserves travelled to the Fieldings and returned with a 3-0 win over Mansfield Hosiery Mills, the goals coming from Alex Lynam with two and Jack Desmond. 780 JLC were 2-1 winners over Arnold Town thanks to Oliver Bradbury and Tom Garner’ s goals, Martin Bassey on target for Arnold. The third side to go down were Mickleover Reserves who were beaten 2-0 at Melbourne Dynamo for whom Isaac Gosling and Jack Bodill were the scorers. Dinnington Town progressed after a short trip to Brinsworth to face AFC Phoenix, the final score 5-0 to the visitors thanks to a Sam Foulds double and goals for Joe Byron, Max Glaves and Josh Baxter. Two goals from Connor Barnes gave Ashland Rovers a 2-1 victory over PMG Academy whose reply came from Morgan Wilkinson. Harworth Colliery made it to round two by beating Long Eaton United Community 3-0. Tom Bedford put them ahead on 18 minutes, Ainsley Finney doubled the lead with 69 played with Callum Brooks getting the third fifteen minutes from time. A Josh Barnes goal was enough to give Holbrook
St Michaels a narrow win in their local derby against Kilburn. There were hat tricks for Marlon Grundy and Lewis Chambers in Newark Town’s 6-1 defeat of AFC Bentley. Grundy put the home side in front on 27 minutes, Brad Vann equalising four minutes later. Grundy got his second with 55 minutes played, Chambers made it three ten minutes later with both players completing their hat tricks in the final eight minutes. Sutton Rovers had a last minute goal from Ryan Walker to thank for their 2-1 win over Linby Colliery. Konor Slack gave Sutton a 59th minute lead, Kayne McKenna levelling 15 minutes from time before Walker’s last gasp decider. A Jay Cooper hat trick along with goals for Sion Green and Luke Thomas gave Pinxton a comfortable 5-0 win over Ripley Town at Wharf Road. Pinxton are now unbeaten in the League Cup for four years, their last defeat coming in October 2016. Wirksworth Ivanhoe were 3-0 winners at Shirebrook Soldiers with Alex Dawson, Tom Mellor and Jack Higton all on the scoresheet.

Montelle Kamara led the way with a hat trick, Lewis Macaskill and Callam Lytham each added two with Josh Parfitt and Harry Webster-Dunkerley the other scorers. Renishaw’s Chris Savage did however make his mark by being the first to score against the Millers this season. Collingham and St Josephs Rockware shared for goals and the points at Station Road, Jake Morrison and Archie Richardson’s goals for the home side being matched by Scott Wesley’s double for St Josephs. Crowle Colts had a 2-1 win against Staveley Reserves with goals from Daniel Barrowcliffe and Joe Simpson, Callum Fletcher replying for the Trojans. It was the same scoreline at Retford United where the hosts beat Thorne Colliery. Brandon Kane gave Retford a 37th minute lead, Tom Brook adding number two with 52 minutes played before Nick Hawcroft pulled one back in the 74th minute.

The top two in the Premier South division remain unbeaten, Rowsley 86 and Blidworth Welfare playing out a 2-2 draw.
