MIDWEEK MATCHES

Just five matches took place on Tuesday night. The goals came from Pablo Mills and Fin Barker who each scored twice, Devon Smith, John McGrath and George Atwal.

In the Premier North division, Newark Town regained second place following a 3-0 win at Sheffield Reserves. All three goals came in a ten minute spell midway through the second half, Zak Kersey, Lewis Chambers and Mason Rhiney on target.

The second round of the Abacus Lighting Floodlit Cup got underway at Scrooby Road where Harworth Colliery came very close to being eliminated by Staveley Reserves. Staveley led with a first half goal from Zander Duhameau, Harworth finally levelling with a last minute penalty by Bayley Lowe before going on to win the penalty shootout 5-4.

Saturday’s fixtures were decimated by Storm Arwen which struck on Friday night leaving a trail of waterlogged and snow-covered pitches. Only seven games survived out of the twenty-six scheduled.

In the Premier North division Retford United climbed back into second place with a 5-1 win at Askern Miners. Aaron Fell scored twice for the Badgers with Mark West, Dean Conway and sub Liam Frost getting a goal apiece, with Elliot Mountfield replying for Askern. AFC Phoenix moved off the foot of the table for the first time this season following their second successive win, Tom Sowden with the only goal of the game at Crowle Colts.
