Central Midlands Alliance Roundup for March 9th

MIDWEEK MATCHES

There were significant results in the two cup ties which grabbed the attention this midweek with defeats for the Premier North’s leading pair. On Tuesday night Dearne & District faced Derby Singh Brothers in the quarter final of the Buckingham Insurance League Cup, the match finally decided from the penalty spot. The match ended in a 1-1 draw with both goals coming in the opening half. Singhs took the lead with a goal from Jagtar Dhanoa, Liam Flint equalising for Dearne. The second half ended with no addition to the scores, leading to the dreaded penalty shootout. Dearne failed with their first kick, the other nine were scored, allowing Singhs to join Cromford & Wirksworth Town in the semis.
The following night saw Doncaster City and Chesterfield Youth face each other in the second semi-final of the Abacus Lighting Floodlit Cup. Current form went out of the window as the underdogs pulled off a 2-0 win. Ali Mohiuddin put Chesterfield ahead with a long range shot in the first half, the second not coming until the final minute as Doncaster pushed forward. A Chesterfield breakaway resulted in a penalty which Lewis Reah converted to earn the Spireites a final date with Dinnington Town at Alfreton on March 20th.
Pinxton picked up another three points after a 4-1 defeat of Cromford & Wirksworth Town, Ben Jones coming off the bench to score a hat trick, Aaron Northmore with the other goal while Scott Taylor was Cromford’s scorer This leaves Pinxton fourteen points clear although their pursuers have several games in hand. Bakewell Town came from behind to pull off a 4-2 win at Mansfield Hosiery Mills. Bakewell took a 20th minute lead through Tom Forder, Luke Crosby equalising for the Millers who took the lead early in the second half with a Matt Fowler goal. This was as good as it got for the hosts as Bakewell took control. Stu Baker levelled the scores, Tim Garfoot gave them the lead midway through the half, Aaron Maund finishing the comeback from the penalty spot.
Teversal hosted Clipstone in the Macron Store Nottingham Division One East, the visitors winning 2-0 with goals from Callam Atkinson (52 minutes) and Gaz Seagrave (66) the scorers. Cromford & Wirksworth Town won through to the next round of the Division One Cup, Josh Middleton and Aaron Taylor with the goals that put out Heanor Town 2-0.

WEEKEND MATCHES

On Friday night, in front of a reported crowd of 125. Ollerton Town’s reserves entertained Clipstone reserves, the match ending in a 5-2 win for the visitors. Clipstone’s goals came from Callum Atkinson with two, Gaz Seagrave, Taffy Pariva and Liam West, with Archie Ward and Joe Tunnard the scorers for Ollerton. Saturday saw an unprecedented 37 matches played, no doubt a slight relief for the fixture secretary. In the Premier North Doncaster City put Wednesday firmly behind them as they hammered Kiveton Miners Welfare 8-0 at Stone Close. Only two goals up at half time with Jonny Nyantou responsible for both, Kiveton were blown away by a four goal blast in just nine minutes, Nyantou taking his total to four, Mo Gashi and Harry Clapham also joining in the goal spree. Doncaster signed off with a late double, a second for Clapham and a last minute goal from Reiss Harrison. A revitalised SJR Worksop made it four in a row defeating AFC Bentley 3-0, Tom Mullen with a double, Scott Wesley the other scorer. A second half rally by Woodhouse Colts wasn’t quite enough to pull back a four goal deficit in their home game with Yorkshire Main. The visitors were quickly into their stride, Josh Gelder’s 6th minute goal followed two minutes later by one from Marvin Hockman, Daniel Boulton increased the lead in the 35th minute while Gelder’s second shortly before the break seemed to make the result a formality. Woodhouse had other ideas however, goals from Jamie Royle, Will Hunter and Jayden Bull leaving Main hanging on for a 4-3 win. Not for the first time this season Glapwell conceded in the first minute, Sonny Bennett putting Chesterfield ahead, Tom Pawson doubled the lead a couple of minutes before half time. Two more from a Leo King penalty and Jerome Bedeau ended a successful week for the Spireites. A goal seven minutes before time from Sam Limber was enough to give Elite AFC the points at home to Hatfield Town.

South Normanton almost came a cropper at foot of the table Holbrook St Michaels, only a single Liam Scully goal keeping them within reach of the leaders. Melbourne Dynamo remain in second spot after a comfortable 4-0 defeat of Mayfield, James Smith’s hat trick doing most of the damage with Charlie Tovell also on the scoresheet. Linby Colliery prolonged Derby Singh Brothers rocky patch with a 3-2 win at Church Lane. Linby were quick out of the blocks Joe Butler scoring on ten minutes before converting a penalty four minutes later. Linby held their advantage until the 68th minute when Stephen Byrne pulled one back and just two minutes later the scores were level, Tyler Johal with the equaliser. Linby nicked the points in the final minutes of normal time, Mason Moore striking the winner. There was an encouraging win for Mansfield Hosiery Mills as they won 2-1 at home against Mickleover Reserves. George Simpson and Luke Crosby did the damage, Mickleover replying with a goal from Luis Mas-Hall. AFC Normanton must have been aggrieved to come away from their match with Wirksworth Ivanhoe empty-handed after leading until five minutes from time. Ivanhoe took a 4th minute lead with a Tom Mellor goal, Jak Lightly bringing the sides level on the half hour before Vladislav Nitiss gave Normanton a lead which they held until 85 minutes when Lewis Higton levelled. the visitors spiriting the points away, Owen King with the winner with 98 minutes on the clock. Two second half goals in the space of three minutes sealed the win for Cromford & Wirksworth Town away at Teversal. Dec Jenkins found the net on 76 minutes followed by one from Louie Davies shortly afterwards. Arnold went down to a 3-1 home defeat, visitors Mickleover RBL scoring in the first and last minutes of the game. Sam Vickers got the early goal for the Legion, Craig Taylor finally equalising ten minutes into the second half. Ben Rushby regained Mickleover’s lead with 77 on the clock, Conor Livingstone finally extinguishing Arnold’s hope of a point at the death. The match between Bakewell and Graham Street Prims finished goalless.

Blidworth Welfare’s gallant runs in this season’s cup competitions finally came to an end at Dinnington Town who will be chasing a cup double after winning this League Cup quarter final 4-2. Justin Circuit’s goal in the fIrst minute gave Dinnington the ideal start but Tris Burrell levelled on the stroke of half time. Three goals in the space of seven minutes at the start of the second half virtually killed the tie, Cam Evans with two and Circuit getting his second, Burrell’s 68th minute penalty the only addition to the score

Two big scores in Division One North with Worksop Town moving to the top following a seven goal thumping of Crowle Colts. The Tigers’ goals came from Louis Brown and Rostik Yaremenko with two each, Asher Shafiq, Alfie Parnell and Oscar Clarke which puts them a point ahead of Armthorpe who have a game in hand. Sheffield FC would overtake both teams if they won their games in hand. They overwhelmed Bessacarr 8-2. Sheffield were well ahead by half time, Tom Rodgers (2), Marc Newsham (2) and Luke McKernan putting the game beyond the visitors, Gabriel Pinto having pulled one back. Ryan Whiteside did get a second for Bessacarr but a hat trick in just fourteen minutes by Otis Pike reestablished Sheffield’s grip on the match. In the other match Dearne & District drew 1-1 with Appleby Frodingham.

Kirton Brickworks have suffered a bit of a slump at the wrong time, their goalless draw at home to Linby being the third game running they haven’t taken full points making second placed Blidworth Welfare’s task that much easier. Sleetmoor United pulled off a highly encouraging 5-0 win at Ashland Rovers. Morgan Boyle and Connor Kerry got two apiece, Bradley Flinn also on target. Pilsley and Long Bennington drew 1-1 with Matthew Parnham scoring for Pilsley, Jack Marshall replying for the visitors.

With Kilburn and Mickleover Athletic involved in cup ties, Holbrook Sports took the opportunity to leapfrog to the top of the Division One West table, a Billy Barnes goal enough to beat visitors Bargate Rovers. Little Eaton were 2-1 winners at Rowsley 86 thanks to a late goal from Gav McReady. Jack Hibbitt put the visitors in front after ten minutes, the equaliser coming shortly after the hour mark from Jacob Silcock. There were just two minutes remaining when the decider hit the back of the net. Inter Belper and Heanor Town, Harry Brown with the goal for Inter. Bakewell Town won 2-0 at Belper United, thanks to debut goals for 16 year olds Sam Rosling and Luke Arum. Bottom side Cromford & Wirksworth Town were beaten 4-1 by Holbrook St Michaels, Mahamudu Touray with a double, Jordan Mason and Joe Heverin the scorers, Lewis Newman with Cromford’s reply.

A big win for Burton United in he South Division at Baobab United, the final score 6-1 in their favour. Jamie Disney scored twice with Sahil Bagavan, Richard Foster, Luke Gattuor and Sohail Hussain all on target, Bamoussa Cisse with the goal for Baobab. FC SunnyhilL defeated Punjab United 3-0, Rashaan Robinson, Myles Sturgess and sub Tyrel Francis with the goals.

Three games in Division Two and a big win for Ashland Rovers, 7-2 at Castle Donington, unfortunately I’ve been unable to find their goalscorers but Tye Parker and Ryan Thomas netted for the hosts. A Conor Sharpe goal was enough for Sherwin to take the points at Aston Village while Newhall United drew 1-1 with Markeaton, for whom Max Charlton’s goal on the hour was wiped out ten minutes later by Ethan Christie.

Two more sides reached round four of the Division One Cup. Marcus Langley and Kai Hamilton’s goals decided the all South clash between Allenton United and Mickleover Athletic, Lewis Bagshaw’s strike not enough to save Athletic from a 2-1 defeat. Danny O’Donnell’s 30th minute goal was the only one as Kilburn knocked out Stapenhill.

In the Mel Williams Division Two Cup Ashover finally achieved a rare win, 4-1 at Bargate Rovers with two goals for Thomas Sysson and one from Lucas Brailsford and Joe Selby, Matt Coope with the goal for Bargate Willington beat Wirksworth Ivanhoe 2-1 thanks to Mason Bannister’s double on 11 and 77 minutes, George Frost Gilbert getting one for Wirksworth on 28.
