MIDWEEK MATCHES

The midweek slot was devoted to the second round of the Abacus Lighting Floodlit Cup, six of the eight regional quarter finals being settled.

An all Division One tie went in favour of Blidworth Welfare who returned to action with a 5-2 win at Appleby Frodingham. Reilly Hodgkinson scored twice for the visitors with Tris Burrell, Jack Reeves and Liam carver also finding the net, Frod’s reply coming from a Nathan McGuigan penalty and Alfie Comerford. Chesterfield Youth had a comfortable 5-0 victory against Ollerton Reserves. A double from James Simmonite and goals from Koby Thompson, Ryley D’Sena and Liam Jessop saw the young Spireites safely through to the next round. A closer contest at Lees Lane where hosts South Normanton had to come from behind to get the better of Division One Sheffield Development. Josh Parfitt gave the Shiners a 29th minute, Carter Tingle making it 1-1 by half time. Moses Johnson gave the visitors the advantage in the 56th minute but were pegged back by a goal from Tom McTighe, Jordan Macaskill stealing it for the home side six minutes from time. Out of action since November 25th, Teversal were beaten by a single goal from Pinxton’s Sion Green two minutes after half time. Wednesday night’s two ties turned out to be rather one-sided. Doncaster City were the visitors at Staveley Reserves, returning home with a 6-0 win under their belts. The game was virtually decided by the 23rd minute by which time Shay Evans-Booth had scored a hat trick, The other three came after the interval, Jake Drury got the fourth midway through the half, with Jonny Nyantou netting on 76 minutes and Drury adding the final touch five minutes before the end. Dearne & District went one better, thumping Mansfield Hosiery Mills 7-0. Dearne and District picked up yet another three points but thanks to a dogged defensive display by Staveley Reserves backed up with some impressive goalkeeping. The final score was 2-1, Josh Moore and Enzo Guarini with the goals for Dearne, Liam Kamsika scoring for Staveley. Harworth Colliery look to have turned the corner after a disappointing first half of the season. They crushed Chesterfield Youth 6-0, Ewan Plant setting the trend with goals on 21 and 34 minutes, Liam Smart with the third just before half time. The second half followed a similar pattern, Plant completing his hat trick in the 53rd minute, Adam Morrison, midway through the half before Jason Kearsley wrapped it up seven minutes from time. There was another hat trick at Yorkshire Main, this one coming from Josh Gelder, his three goals coming in the 55th, 75th and 89th minutes against a Woodhouse Colts side who weren’t helped by incurring two red cards. James Bytheway gave Hatfield Town a 13th minute lead at home to SJR Worksop, adding a second a minute after the restart. Four minutes later SJR were back in the game, Luke Tong pulling one back and that’s how it stayed until stoppage time when Chad Lake pinched a point for the visitors. No change of fortune for Glapwell, playing their first home game since October 7th. AFC Bentley ran in seven goals, with six different scorers. A first minute strike by Steve Garner followed by another shortly after from Owen Hall must have caused that sinking feeling for the home side which deepened when Zack King and Josh Bowkett doubled the lead by half time. Craig Aspinall slotted home Bentley’s fifth four minutes into the second half, Shaun Carrington adding another on the hour. Five substitutions for Glapwell put the brakes on, limiting Bentley to one more, Bowkett getting his second in added time. AFC Phoenix’s recent improvement had a setback as Rossington Main Development went home with the points after a 2-1 win. Main were two up at half time thanks to Liam Cooper’s 20th minute goal and another from Jordan Buckham on 37. Although Hassan Daud got one back after 70 minutes, Phoenix couldn’t find the equaliser. Elite AFC beat Kiveton Miners Welfare 5-2. Scorers for Elite were Tommy Pallett with two, Dec Richards, Sam Limber and Sammy Amissah, Kiveton’s reply doming from Harrison Case and Rio Murray/
