Central Midlands Alliance Roundup for March 2nd

MIDWEEK MATCHES

No fewer than eight matches were played in midweek which must be some sort of record in recent months.

Top of the bill was the first semi final in the Abacus Lighting Floodlit Cup featuring two of the top three in the Premier North. Dinnington Town having home advantage against Dearne & District who got off to a perfect start, Curtis Wilkinson putting them ahead in the 8th minute. The game ebbed and flowed, both sides having scoring chance, but it wasn’t until the 56th minute that Jordan Turner equalised for Dinnington. The result was in doubt until five minutes from the end when Tuner scored the winner giving his team a final date against either Chesterfield Youth or Doncaster City. The final will be played at Alfreton

Five of the nine were in the Black Dragon Badges South Division. Two of the top three had differing fortunes. Pinxton consolidated their position at the top pf the pile with a clear cut 3-0 win at Teversal. The three goals all came in the second half, Brad Hall’s 50th minute opener followed two minutes later by one from Tom Wood. Jay Cooper’s third ten minutes from the end sealing the inevitable. Those of you of a certain age will remember the inspector from On The Buses whose catchphrase “I hate you Butler” must have been echoed by South Normanton as Linby Colliery went home with the points after Joe Butler scored four times in an emphatic 5-2 win at Lees Lane. Butler got his first two along with one from Josh Wass in a first half in which Linby led three times< Josh Parfitt and Marc Bright twice pulled the Shiners level, before Butler put the finishing touch to a noteworthy win. Graham Street Prims defeated Mayfield 4-1 with Regan Bickerton’s 37th minute goal put Prims ahead at the interval, the same player getting his second after 54. Two goals in the space of a minute from Liam Gregg ten minutes from time confirmed the result, Tom Wain getting Mayfield a consolation on 85 minutes. Mansfield Hosiery Mills came from behind to see off AFC Normanton 4-2, Aaron Carrington scoring after 15 minutes, Jak Lightly equalising after 35 before Kian Brewin put Normanton ahead three minutes into the second half. Max Denton put the Millers back on level terms with 54 played, George Simpson (65) and sub Henry Brooks (85) giving the hosts maximum points. Crmford & Wirksworth Town travelled to Mickleover Reserves, Dec Jenkins with the goals as they completed a 2-0 win.

Two matches in the Premier North with Chesterfield Youth having the ball in the net three times in their game with Woodhouse Colts. Unfortunately for them two of the three were at the wrong end, allowing the visitors a 2-1 win, the Chesterfield goal which did count for them scored by Barnaby Smith. All square at Scrooby Road as Harworth Colliery and Hatfield Town fought out a 1-1 draw, Callum Stockton scoring for Hatfield on 57 minutes, Cameron Till equalising eight minutes later.

SATURDAY

In the Premier North the recent improvement in SJR Worksop’s fortunes continued with a 4-0 win at Staveley Reserves, their third in a row. Charlie Baird scored twice, Jake Greeves and Matty Templeton with one each. Another side to enjoy better form are AFC Phoenix who were 4-1 winners at home to AFC Bentley who took the lead in first half through Jordan Snodin. Ashley O’Brien put Phoenix on terms seven minutes after the restart, Josh Bennett giving the home side the lead on 74 minutes. Any hope Bentley had about salvaging a point were dashed in the last three minutes as O’Brien and Keegan Hepplestone put the result beyond doubt. Dinnington Town followed up their midweek success with a 2-1 defeat of Harworth Colliery. Travis Hodgson’s goal after half an hour separated the sides at half time, Nathan Jessop with number two in the 71st minute, an own goal three minutes from the final whistle putting Harworth on the scoreboard. A totally one-sided match at Armthorpe resulted in an eleven goal win for Doncaster City at home to Glapwell. Jack Mckay top-scored with no less than six goals, Jonny Nyantou got a hat trick, Mo Gashi and Reiss Harrison adding one each. Elite FC switched to 3G to get their game with Woodhouse Colts played and it paid off for them with a 4-2 win. On target for Elite were Robbie Wood with two, Tommy Pallett and Sammy Amissah while Connor Ward and Jayden Bull scored for the Colts.

At last success for Teversal, their 3-2 win against Mayfield giving them the three points for the first time since September. All three of their goals came in the first half, Jake Allen’s ninth minute opener followed by one from Cameron Pinnick ten minutes later. Ben Denton scored a third on the stroke of half time It wasn’t, however, plain sailing in the second half as Mayfield fought back with Freddie Garrett’s goal in the 54th minute followed by one from Joe Handley on 66, but the home side held on to claim that elusive win. Derby Singh Brothers tasted defeat in the league for the first time this season, Pinxton stretching their lead at the top with a 2-1 win, Kane Hempshall and a 90th minute clincher from Aaron Northmore with the goals, Khaleeq Shaffique scoring a penalty for Singhs. The points were shared at Cockshut Lane, Melbourne Dynamo and Graham Street Prims drawing 1-1, both goals coming in the opening 45, Tyler Withers for Dynamo, Jorge Knowles for Prims. AFC Normanton’s match with Cromford & Wirksworth Town was switched to Cromford at the last minute, Cromford profiting with a 5-1 win, their goals coming from Dec Jenkins, Ryan Smith, Scott Taylor. Luke Roper and an own goal, Jie Frost with one for the visitors. A first win of 2024 for Bakewell Town, a first half goal from Stu Baker and one after the break for Tim Garfoot giving them a 2-0 result at Linby Colliery.
Sheffield FC pulled in one of their games in hand as they beat Dearne & District 2-1 in the Macron Store Nottingham Division One North. Sheffield took the initiative with early goals from Riley Moore (9 minutes) and Lewis Russell (16), Dearne only able to get one back on 63 minutes from Josh Williamson. Plenty of goals at Crowle with the home side going down 6-3 to Bessacarr. Matty Bradley hit a hat trick for the visitors, Ryan Whiteside with two and Kieran Thomas also scoring, while Nathan Lock, Louis Scott and Diogo Costa were on the scoresheet for Crowle. Donovan Day with two and Harvey Birrell were Bottesford Town’s scorers in their 3-0 win against Harworth Colliery. The only game in the Eastern division resulted in a 3-2 win for RHP Sports against local rivals Ollerton Town. Jason Thurlby with two goals and Louson Buckland shaded it for the Newark side, Archie Ward and Jack Appleton with Ollerton’s reply. Mickleover Athletic’s 4-0 defeat of Little Eaton saw them move up to joint leadership of the Western section although Kilburn have a game in hand. Alex Lawrence was the inspiration behind the win, Jamie Laird also scoring. Two mid-table sides met at Bargate Rovers, two late goals giving them a 3-2 win against Bakewell Town. A brace from Fenwick Butcher and another for Callum Hyde were enough to take the points, Freddie Hatcher and Jack Heath with the goals for Bakewell. There were two matches in the South division, all four teams involved playing their first games for a month. Hilton Harriers returned to the top after a 4-2 defeat of Hemington Hammers, Conner Franklin and Dan Dolby each scoring twice, Callum Callow and Michael Morcombe with Hammers’ reply. A second half fightback by Castle Donington wasn’t quite enough to earn a point from their match with Stapenhill. A Brad Wright double and one from Sean Carter gave the visitors the points, Tye Parker and Ross Sims with the goals which weren’t quite enough to prevent a 3-2 defeat.

In the Drayton PACS Division Two there was a big win for Ashland Rovers against Little Eaton the match ending 8-2. Michael Dennis scored a hat trick for Ashland, the other goals shared between Jack Sheldon, Ryan Turton, Daniel Camara, Nathan Atkins and Callum Jones with Mason Wright and Ross Woodhouse making the score a little more respectable. Willington United and Newhall United took a point apiece from a 2-2 draw with Newhall’s equaliser not arriving until the 93rd minute. Anri Burmeisters scoring in the 15th and 41st minutes to give Willington the half time advantage. Jimmy Cartwright brought Newhall back into the game after 69 minutes before scoring the very late leveller. A ruthless second half display by Markeaton brought them a 4-2 win at home to Bargate Rovers. The visitors led at half time thanks to Tom Lewis’s 37th minute goal, Markeaton not getting their act together until the 56th minute when Max Charlton scored the equaliser with another three goals coming in the next quarter of an hour from Ben Jones, a second for Charlton and Toby Knutton, Matt Coope with Bargate’s second with a 75th minute penalty.

Two more teams reached the next round of the Division One Cup with Blidworth Welfare suffering a rare defeat at the hands of Worksop Town who were 5-2 winners. Dan Gillett scored two for the Tigers, Max Eastwood, Ethan Slater and Rosti Yaramenko also finding the net with Reilly Hodgkinson and Liam Carver the Blidworth scorers. Worksop were joined by Armthorpe Welfare for whom a Trevor Hindson goal proved just enough to eliminate Clipstone.
