Central Midlands Alliance Roundup for February 17th

MIDWEEK

Despite the outstanding ties in the League and Floodlit Cups being rained off, several matches did go ahead.
Doncaster City successfully reeled in another of their Black Dragon Badges Premier North games in hand at Staveley Reserves, winning 3-0. Mo Gashi put them in front after half an hour, but the real damage was done around the hour mark as Carl Reade’s 59th minute was followed by a third from Jonny Nyantou just four minutes later.
In the Premier South Mansfield Hosiery Mills brought home a point from Mickleover Reserves, the match ending in a 3-3 draw. Josh Carter was responsible for all three of the home sides’ goals, Matt Fowler, Jack Hutchinson and Luke Crosby with one each for the Millers.
The clash between the top two in the Macron Store Nottingham Division One North went the way of Worksop Town, the Tigers coming out on top 4-1 thanks to Louis Brown, Rhys Butterworth, Max Eastwood and Dan Gilliatt with Mason Collins pulling one back for Armthorpe. Bottesford Town went one better with a 5-1 defeat of Dearne & District, Joe Hare, Liam Jarman, Oliver Rides and a double from Ben Henderson took the winners up to third place in the table.

SATURDAY

A full set of matches in the Premier North featured the long awaited clash between the top two, a Doncaster City side featuring several experienced recent signings beating Dearne & District 3-1 with two late goals proving decisive. Following a goalless first half Dearne took the lead on 64 minutes through Baz Lowe but three minutes later the scores were level, Mo Gashi with the equaliser. That’s how it stayed until five minutes from time when Nick Howcroft put City ahead, Shay Evans Booth scoring a third in the final minute. Dinnington Town kept in touch with a 3-1 win at AFC Phoenix. Dinnington were two up by half time, Cameron Evans’ tenth minute opener followed by one from Ashley Cooper just before the break. A 57th minute own goal put the match beyond Phoenix who finally got on the scoresheet 15 minutes from time, Lewis Fretwell finding the net. A high scoring encounter at Edlington saw visitors Glapwell score three for the first time this season, though unfortunately for them their hosts, Yorkshire Main, scored nine. Danny Boulton gave Main an early lead which Nick Johnson quickly wiped out, Tristan Taylor’s 17th minute goal again bringing an almost instant response from Johnson. That was the peak for the visitors as a Josh Gelder goal followed by a quickfire double from Brandon Burke just before half time gave the home side what looked like an unassailable lead. Fynn Whitehouse gave Glapwell hope two minutes after the restart, but Burke and Boulton both completed hat tricks and Gelder got his second to complete the afternoon’s goalfest. On the other side of Doncaster two goals from Hatfield Town’s Callum Stockton gave his team a 2-1 win over AFC Bentley. Stockton struck in the 6th and 43rd minutes, Theo Mowatt’s 70th minute penalty not enough to rescue a point for Bentley. A great comeback by SJR Worksop saw them claw back a two goal half time deficit to complete a 4-3 win against Elite AFC. The visitors led 3-1 at the interval thanks to two goals from Sammy Amissah and one for Brodey Burden, Jack Greaves having scored for SJR. The hosts took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half, Tom Mullen pulling a goal back, Greaves scoring his second to level things before Cole Stark struck in the final minute to take maximum points. Staveley Reserves faced Kiveton Miners Welfare, the match ending 3-1 to the Trojans. All three goals came in the second half with Michael Wilson, Charlie Bingham and Jay Jay Cutts all on the scoresheet while Abiodun Olukotun got the goal for Kiveton. The match between Rossington Main Reserves and Woodhouse Colts was abandoned after a serious injury to Rossington’s Damien Wieczorek to whom go best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

In the South, despite the recent improvement in the weather, unfit pitches left only four games remaining with the top three all taking full points. In an evenly contested match at The Fieldings, Pinxton squeezed past Mansfield Hosiery Mills 2-1. The sides were level at a goal apiece by half time, Jack Hodgkinson scoring for Pinxton, Henry Brooks for the Millers. The decider came twelve minutes from time, Harley Kozluk the scorer. Arnold Town can count themselves highly unfortunate not to have taken at least a point at home to title chasing South Normanton Athletic. An 11th minute goal from Shiners’ Josh Parfitt was answered five minutes later by Dan Chambers, and as the home side pressed, the Shiners broke away twice in as many minutes shortly before half time, Tyron Macaskill and Josh Scully both finding the net. Despite exerting long periods of pressure, Arnold could only add one more goal, Chambers doubling his tally in the 51st minute. Melbourne Dynamo were 4-2 winners over Linby Colliery to maintain third spot in the table. Jack Bodill with two, Tyler Withers and Sam Simpson were the men behind the win, Linby’s goals coming from Connor Gillan and Mitch Slawson. Mickleover RBL and Wirksworth Ivanhoe drew 2-2. Ivanhoe took a 14th minute lead with a Lewis Higton goal, two goals in a couple of minutes just after the half hour mark from Lee Hillier and Dean Oliver seeing the Legion secure a half time lead, Higton’s second half goal giving a share of the points to the visitors.

Armthorpe Welfare made a quick recovery from their midweek defeat in Division One North as they ran in five unopposed goals at Dearne & District, Bradley Sparrow’s hat trick backed up by Shane Carver and Sam Robinson. Harworth Colliery drew 2-2 with Crowle Colts, the goals all coming at the same end as Crowle’s Ben Johnson and Liam Snow scored in the first half, Harworth’s Mick Wibberley and Kian Docherty getting the goals in the second.

Saturday could turn out to be a defining day in Division One East as Blidworth Welfare took three points while Kirton Brickworks only managed one. As a result Kirton’s lead is down to 13 points while Blidworth have six games in hand. They took all the points from a 3-1 win at Long Bennington with all three goals coming in the first 25 minutes. Reilly Hodgkinson opened their account on 10 minutes, Tris Burrell adding goals in the 18th and 26th, Max Hardy scoring for the home team. Meanwhile Kirton had to come from behind to rescue a point at home to RHP Sports. The Brickies trailed 3-1 at the break, Clownes Steele, Sol Miller and George Sheen having netted for RHP with Jack March scoring for Kirton. Despite March completing his hat trick after the break there was no winner for the hosts. Ashland Rovers tasted victory for the first time since mid-October as two early goals from Ryan Butler and Rob Whitmore giving them a 2-1 win at Linby Colliery whose scorer was Ashdon Bernard. A productive afternoon for Teversal’s Cameron Pinnick saw him hit the back of the net four times in his side’s 5-2 defeat of Pilsley. Pinnick struck in the 4th minute and again on 26 to give Tevie the half time advantage, and although Pilsley got one back through Nathan Flint on 53 minutes, Pinnick completed his treble from the penalty spot on the hour and added his fourth ten minutes. There was a late exchange of goals Lewis Clift with one for the hosts a minute from the end quickly countered by Matthew Parnham.

It's getting tight at the top of the Division One West table with just four points separating the top four. Kilburn missed the chance to open up a three point lead as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Little Eaton who were quickly off the mark, Shilo Wilson scoring in the first minute. Kilburn levelled with a Kaine Bray goal after half an hour but fell behind again ten minutes later, Dan Peberdy restoring Little Eaton’s lead, Ben Hilton ensuring the points were shared midway through the second half. Bargate Rovers saw off the challenge of Heanor Town, the final score 4-1. Brad Sadler (10) and George Stokes (25) put Bargate well on the way by half time Fenwick Butcher put them three up eight minutes into the second half, Matt Coope adding another ten minutes from the end which just left time for Joe Royston’s consolation for Heanor. The other two matches ended in 5-0 away wins. Mickleover Athletic’ s win at Rowsley kept up the pressure on the top two. An Alex Lawrence goal after 30 minutes was followed by one from Matty Patterson midway through the second half. The win was made more emphatic by a whirlwind hat trick from Cole Hassell in just ten minutes in the latter stages of the match. Bakewell Town also hit five at Holbrook St Michaels, Jack Mason with a hat trick, Will Johnson and Matt Stanway the scorers.

Drayton PACS Division Two leaders Melbourne Dynamo are now eleven points clear of the pack after a 5-3 defeat of Sherwin who belied their lowly position. Robin Bentley with a hat trick and Riley Moore scoring the other two, Sherwin replying with a double from Carlus Grant and one for Oliver Wood. Little Eaton won 4-1 at Ashover, Jody Burton scoring twice, Aaron Henry and Mason Wright with one apiece, Cam Sorockyji getting Ashover on the scoresheet. Finally Ryan Turton completed a good day for the club, his 47th minute goal enough to beat Markeaton.
